Member Spotlight on: LINA SIMONI

With a B.S. in Engineering, a Ph.D. in Computer Science, and training in Neuroscience, Lina did research and taught for 12 years at major American institutions (MIT, Northwestern University, McGill University) in the field of Computational Neuroscience, studying and modeling the functions of the human brain. She abandoned her scientific endeavors in 2000, when she decided to turn her lifelong hobbies (literature and art) into full-time professional activities.

 
Trained at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Evanston Art Center, Lina showed her paintings and photographs in galleries in the Midwest, Northeast, Florida, and the South of France. On the literary front, she is the author of an award-winning novel, The Scent of Rosa's Oil which was published in the US, Germany and Greece; and a second novel, The House of Serenades, which was published in Germany and is to appear in the US in June of 2012. 
 
Lina is also the author of  Sofia's Rainbow, a children's book that is also a charity for children's literacy programs.
 
Lina found the Palm Springs Writers Guild after moving to the Coachella Valley in 2010. She is also a member of the National League of American Pen WomenPalm Springs Women in Film and Television.  At the moment she is working on her third novel, The Cabinet Spell.
 
Her son, Tommaso, is a talented actor/musician as well as a scholar of the cultures of the Mediterranean basin.
 
Lina Simoni lives in Palm Springs, with her two cocker spaniels, Biscuit and Simon.
