2017 Scholarship Award

Tod Goldberg, NewYork Times best-selling author and director of the University of California-Riverside (UCR), Palm Desert campus, low-residency Master of FineArts (MFA) program, accepted the Guild’s Barbara Seranella Scholarship award of $5,000 at the May 6, 2017 meeting. The UCR local campus was chosen by Board members to help fledging writers in its MFA program. Tod said he selects learners who have overcome diversity, mirroring Barbara Seranella, to receive the monetary award. He then shared personal and professional stories about Barbara, and discussed the MFA program. The MFA program does not receive any tax dollars, and is funded totally by tuition. Tod thanked Guild Board members and the membership for the award, noting that the Guild had initially given UCR scholarship money in Barbara’s name to help learners in its graduate MFA program.
